THE PABLO PROJECT: MISSION MOBILITY

How This Mission Began

On October 6, 2025, I came across Pablo’s story on TikTok, and from the moment I saw him, I couldn’t stop thinking about him. I know he crossed my path for a reason, and with the support of our community, we can give him the chance to recover and, one day, run again.

Pablo is a Belgian Malinois with a heart as strong as his spirit. He is currently in the care of DARS (Disabled Animal Rescue & Sanctuary) in Morocco. Although he is paralyzed from the waist down, he refuses to give up, ‘wooing’ with excitement from his bed as he watches the other dogs run and play in the rescue’s yard. We believe Pablo is only 5 years old and might be able to walk again with the right resources and surgery, neither of which are currently available in Morocco.

*IMPORTANT UPDATE 10/11/25
Once Pablo lands in Miami, I (Olivia) will personally transport him to EIO Rescue Ranch in southwest Florida. Brittany and Jennifer, the owners, saw his story on my Instagram and immediately wanted to learn more and welcome him into their care. Zineb, cofounder of DARS, and I are beyond excited to team up with them, knowing that Pablo will have plenty of space to heal. Their team has experience caring for disabled animals and connections with an amazing veterinarian who has successfully performed spinal surgery for one of their rescues, so Pablo will be in incredible hands.

Please take a moment to read Pablo’s Origin Story below, then keep scrolling to see how we can come together to bring him to the U.S. for the specialized care he needs, and the chance to hopefully walk again.

Pablo’s Origin Story

“He was a security guard’s dog. Not sure how he was paralyzed — probably a car. The security guard abandoned him. A woman took him in and tried to take care of him temporarily on her terrace. She asked for help from the associations but no one answered, apart from DARS eventually. DARS, already struggling like all, tried to support the woman to keep him while finding a solution. The woman had to put Pablo back in the market where he was once abandoned, so he was left in a dog house there. At that point, I paid for his transport and we moved to rescue him before the situation for him became worse. Poor baby. Passed from pillar to post and the loss of his legs — a breed that loves to move.”

- Louise, Animal Lover Who Helped Bring Pablo to DARS

Today, Pablo is safe thanks to DARS. They have him in a room with four other disabled dogs, doing everything they can to keep him comfortable with soft flooring, padding, and blankets.

To give him his best chance at walking again, Pablo needs access to advanced medical imaging, mobility aids like a dog wheelchair, and ideally, specialized surgery, along with physical therapy and good nutrition to maximize his chances of walking again. While Pablo's basic needs with lots of love and care are being provided to him at DARS, it’s our turn to help him take the next step - literally.

As we work to help Pablo, DARS has uncovered more of his story. While drafting this five-step action plan, Zineb sent me a video of Pablo running, swimming, and playing in the ocean with kind locals just a few months ago. Seeing him so full of life only fuels my determination and reminds me why this mission matters. DARS also learned from locals that Pablo’s injury occurred around August 18, 2025, likely as the result of a hit-and-run.

I know that if we all come together, we can change Pablo's life for the better, and here’s how we can do it...

Our Goal

To bring Pablo safely to the U.S., where he can receive the advanced medical care and rehabilitation he needs to walk again - care that is not accessible to animals in his home country.

The 5-Step Plan to Bring Pablo Home

Each step plays a vital role and depends on precision and teamwork. Below is the list of requirements and regulations by the CDC that must be it takes to bring a living animal to be imported from Morocco.

1. Microchip Identification

  • Requirement: An ISO-compliant microchip must be implanted.
  • Timing: Must be done before the rabies vaccination.
  • Purpose: Links animal's identity to their vaccination and health records, so authorities can verify it’s the same dog.
  • Documentation: Microchip number must appear on all certificates.

2. Rabies Vaccination

  • Requirement: Must be administered by a licensed veterinarian and valid for travel.
  • Timing: At least 28 days before entering the U.S.
  • Age Requirement: Animal must be at least 12 weeks old at vaccination.
  • Documentation: Vaccination certificate must include:
    • Microchip number
    • Date of vaccination
    • Vaccine manufacturer & lot number
    • Veterinarian’s details

3. Rabies Serology (Titer) Test

  • Requirement: Blood test to confirm protective rabies antibody levels.
  • Timing: Drawn at least 30 days after vaccination and 28+ days before U.S. entry.
  • Laboratory: Must be sent to a CDC-approved lab.
  • Documentation: Include the lab report confirming passing antibody levels.
  • Purpose: Successfully passing this test avoids CDC quarantine.

4. Health Certificate

  • Issuance: Completed by a USDA-accredited veterinarian.
  • Timing: Within 5 business days of travel.
  • Final Exam: Must include a clinical exam within 24 hours of departure.
  • Endorsement: Signed and stamped by the veterinarian and USDA official.
  • Purpose: Confirms Pablo is healthy and fit to fly.

5. CDC Dog Import Form

  • Completion: Fill out online no more than 30 days before travel.
  • Documentation: Print a copy to accompany animal during the flight.

Extra Notes & Precautions:

  • All documents should be in English or have certified translations.
  • Keep multiple copies for airline staff and U.S. Customs & Border Protection.
  • These steps are done proactively to minimize any chance of CDC quarantine — the goal is a direct flight to the U.S. for Pablo’s specialized care.

Both myself (“Liv”) and Zineb, cofounder of DARS, are working tirelessly to coordinate the safest and most comfortable journey for Pablo. After consulting a professional international pet transport agency, individuals who have personally traveled with their dogs from Morocco, and multiple rescues experienced in organizing international travel for rescued dogs, including one that has successfully brought over four paralyzed dogs from Morocco to the United States, the best route appears to be as cargo on a passenger flight with Royal Air Maroc, flying directly from Morocco to Miami to minimize travel time and avoid unnecessary stops.

1. Pre-Flight Preparation:

  • Confirm Pablo is medically cleared to fly with his veterinarian.
  • Secure all travel documents: health certificate, CDC import form, rabies certificate, and microchip information.
  • Prepare a travel crate that meets airline and international standards.

2. Flight Requirements:

  • If Pablo travels as live animal cargo on a Royal Air Maroc passenger flight, these are the airline’s rules and requirements:
    • Crate must be sturdy, lockable, ventilated, and appropriately sized.
    • Luggage tag with owner name and contact information required.
    • No bedding like hay or straw.
    • Owner must notify the airline in advance that an animal will be traveling.
    • Only a few animals are allowed per flight, reducing stress and crowding.

3. Professional Transporter (OPTION):

  • A trained international pet transporter would fly from Miami to Morocco, pick up Pablo, and fly directly back to Miami.
  • This ensures he is accompanied and monitored by a professional throughout the journey.
  • Expenses for the transporter, travel, and crate preparation are being carefully planned and would be covered through fundraising efforts.

We want to have Pablo fully prepared and safely secured for the journey, minimizing stress and ensuring he arrives ready to receive the specialized care he needs in the U.S.

Important Note:

  • Nothing has been booked yet — we are still exploring all options to get Pablo to the U.S. efficiently and safely.

Before Pablo can travel to the U.S., it is absolutely essential that a safe, supportive environment is in place for him. We cannot bring him here without a confirmed rescue placement, because he must have a secure space to stay, recover, and begin receiving the specialized care he needs immediately upon arrival. We are thrilled to share that as of October 11, 2025, the amazing EIO Rescue Ranch in southwest Florida has eagerly opened their doors to Pablo and will welcome him into their care as soon as he arrives in the U.S.

Key Goals for Rescue Placement:

  • Provide 24/7 care and supervision, including help with mobility, feeding, and daily routines.
  • Ensure access to specialized veterinary care, including potential surgery, chiropractic care, acupuncture, and physical therapy.
  • Provide a comfortable and safe space with non-slip flooring, supportive bedding, and enrichment to keep him engaged.
  • Serve as the liaison for ongoing medical appointments, therapies, and follow-ups.
  • Begin integrating Pablo into a community of animals and humans that can support his physical and emotional recovery.

Current Rescue Status:

  • CONFIRMED: As of October 11, 2025, the amazing EIO Rescue Ranch in southwest Florida will welcome Pablo into their care as soon as he arrives in the U.S.

  • I do not expect any rescue to take on this financial responsibility alone, which is why, once we have a concrete plan and all logistics solidified, I will launch a fundraising effort to cover both Pablo’s transportation and medical needs during his journey.

Once Pablo arrives safely in the U.S. and is placed with EIO Rescue Ranch, he will begin receiving the specialized care and rehabilitation needed to maximize his mobility, comfort, and overall quality of life.

Key Goals for Pablo's Medical Care:

  • Comprehensive Veterinary Evaluation:
    • Full physical examination to assess his current condition and any immediate needs.
    • Advanced imaging (X-rays, MRI, or CT as needed) to evaluate spinal, leg, and joint health.

  • Specialized Surgery or Interventions (if recommended by veterinarians) to improve mobility and function.

  • Rehabilitation & Physical Therapy:
    • Guided exercises to strengthen muscles and support recovery.
    • Hydrotherapy or other low-impact therapies as appropriate.

  • Chiropractic & Acupuncture Care:
    • Support spinal alignment, reduce pain, and promote healing.

  • Mobility Support:
    • Fitting for a doggie wheelchair or other assistive devices to improve independence.
    • Exciting news! Since sharing Pablo’s story, I’m thrilled to announce that an amazing new friend from my online community, Eric, has generously offered his brand-new doggie wheelchair that he no longer needs!

  • Ongoing Monitoring & Adjustments:
    • Continuous evaluation by veterinarians and rehabilitation specialists to adjust care as Pablo progresses.

Goal: Every aspect of Pablo’s medical care will be tailored to give him the best chance to regain mobility, reduce discomfort, and thrive in his new life.

Note: These steps will start as soon as Pablo arrives in the U.S., which is why securing a U.S. rescue placement first was so important. He needs a safe, supportive space to recover while getting the care he needs.

Pablo’s journey to the U.S. and his recovery depends not only on careful planning and rescue coordination but also on community support. Every step, from safe transport to specialized medical care, requires resources, and without your help this mission literally would not be possible. So, thank you!

How You Can Help:

  • Fundraising:
    • 100% of the funds received will go directly toward Pablo’s flight, pre-travel preparations and CDC requirements, his travel crate, and all medical care he will need upon arrival, as well as any ongoing medical care here in the U.S.
    • We are setting up a GoFundMe for Pablo and will limit donations to cover specific needs we’re currently working on, such as sending his blood to the approved lab in Germany for a rabies serology test. This way, everyone knows exactly what their support will help accomplish.
    • This journey can only happen with the support of the dog-loving community coming together for Pablo.

  • Donations of Physical Items:
    • If you have any physical items you’d like to donate for Pablo’s care, please email me at info@thehappidog.com. I can let you know if Pablo is in need of that item or if it’s already been covered. Thank you in advance for wanting to help Pablo!

  • Sharing Pablo’s Story:
    • Feel free to tell friends, share on social media, or simply help spread the word. The more people who know about Pablo and are praying for him, the better.
